Buckley’s Market & Café Coming to Downtown Portsmouth

Exciting news for downtown Portsmouth! Michael Timothy’s Dining Group—the team behind local favorites like Surf in Portsmouth, Buckley’s Market & Café in Hollis, Buckley’s Great Steaks in Merrimack, and MT’s Local in Nashua—is bringing their popular specialty market concept right into the heart of the city. By the end of 2025, Buckley’s Market & Café will open its doors in the Brick Market building at 60 Penhallow Street, replacing the former Hearth Eatery & Bar. The new market will fill an impressive 20,000-square-foot space, offering a mix of specialty groceries, café-style prepared foods, and locally sourced goods.

A Huge Win for Downtown Living

This is a big deal for anyone who lives, works, or plays in Portsmouth. Having a specialty grocer right downtown means residents won’t need to drive out of the city for fresh, high-quality groceries and prepared meals. It’s all about convenience and lifestyle—whether you’re stopping in for gourmet ingredients, a quick coffee, or dinner to-go.

Supporting a Growing Downtown

The timing couldn’t be better. With so many new luxury condominiums and apartment projects underway in Portsmouth, Buckley’s Market & Café will serve as a cornerstone for downtown living. For new residents, this addition will make it easier to truly embrace city life—shopping local, walking to get your essentials, and supporting a community-focused business.

Why It Matters

  • Lifestyle Upgrade: Downtown residents gain easy access to gourmet groceries, specialty products, and a welcoming café.

  • Convenience: Walking distance groceries mean fewer errands outside the city.

  • Community Impact: Local markets like Buckley’s foster connection and keep dollars circulating in the community.

  • Perfect Fit for Growth: With new construction bringing more people downtown, the timing aligns perfectly with Portsmouth’s evolving needs.

In short: Buckley’s Market & Café is more than just a grocery store—it’s a lifestyle enhancer for anyone living in downtown Portsmouth. With new residences filling in the skyline, this addition ensures that city living continues to be as convenient and rewarding as possible. (pic credit: Instagram - Hollis Store)
